Pearl Drums
Buying a used drum set can be a lot of fun, but if you have never purchased a drum set before there are many things that you should be looking for that you might not be aware of.
First of all, make sure that you try the set out, play it, before purchasing it. Many cheaper sets of drums may look good, but after trying them out you'll see that they are not very good.
Second, go and inspect the drum set with a friend who is more experienced if possible. This way you can use their expertise and also make sure that the drum set has all the hardware pieces that are needed to assemble the drums themselves.
Third, if this is your first set, try to keep it simple, although it's fun to buy a large set, you'll likely not need that many drums, and should first master the basics.
Fourth, avoid cheap store brand sets that are usually found at large shopping stores. Look for used drums made by leading brands like Ludwig, Pearl, and Ludwig.
Fifth, look at the condition of the drum heads. Since this is one of the more expensive parts of the drum to replace make sure that these are in good condition.
Normally you should expect to pay between 200 and 500 dollars for a used good set of drums. You could buy a new drum set for this amount of money, but normally these sets are inferior in quality, but if you just want a cheap set of drums these might do.

How do i refinish my drums?
I bought a set of used pearl drums. The owner stripped the varnish off , now there is only panted wood. How would i go about re-varnishing my drums?
You could get some spray varnish, and try to do it yourself, but your best bet is to see if you could get a professional to do it, like a painter at a car shop, so they can tape them up right and do a better job.
