Most dogs prefer if you never clean your ears, but hear the weekly cleanings are necessary to prevent ear infections. Especially for breeds with ears that are more susceptible to infection.
Without routine cleaning, accumulation of wax begins to interfere the airflow. This creates a moist environment ideal for bacteria and yeast growth, leading to ear infections. If untreated, an ear infection can cause health problems for your dog and even cause permanent hearing damage, causing hearing loss.
Warning signs of ear infection:
- ear odor
- Discharge
- constant shaking of the head
- excessive ear scratching
- red and swollen ear
- pain in the ear region
From now on, cleaning the ears of your dog part of their weekly preparation. Here's how:
Materials needed:
- Ear cleaning solution
- cotton balls or cotton pads
- Q-tips
- Ear powder
- Tweezers (for waxing ear hair growth)
- Dog Treats
Gather all supplies and your dog to sit before you or anyone to lie.
Fold your ear and ear squirt solution cleaning in your ear.
Massage the base of the ear between thumb and forefinger for about 20 seconds.
When you're done, leave your dog shakes its head to remove a large piece of debris and liquid bulk.
Then take a cotton ball or pad and remove debris and liquids.
Speaking in a soothing voice to your dog, you can help to calm him during the cleaning process.
Now use a cotton swab to clean the crevices of the ear of your dog. Never insert a cotton swab inside the ear canal of your dog. It is not only more waste packages in the channel - but could cause serious damage to your eardrum.
Finally, add a little powder dry to help remove all unwanted hair inside. Simply use the tweezers or your fingers to grasp and hair internal tension. If your breed of dog hair does not grow on inner ear, can use a little powder dry to help keep ear canals dry and prevent growth of bacteria and fungi.
Now repeat the process in the other ear.
Be sure to stop cleaning each ear dog treats and praise!
