It's the holidays, you need a kids' drum set for your little girl or boy, and you need it CHEAP, because times are tight on the old wallet. Don't worry, your situation isn't any different from that of millions of others at this time of year given the economy. Others have been where you are, panicky and wondering how to not compromise on loving gifts when they have little to spend. And others have figured out the best ways to spend so they can get those drum kits without any waste. You and your loved ones can be experiencing the joys of little hands banging out a rocking beat with a surprisingly small investment, and all you have to do is know where to look.
The smallest individual drums, bongos, and so on can be found for as little as under twenty dollars, but to get a proper drum SET, you'll have to look at higher price brackets. Not too much higher, though! The first real, well-made drum sets meant for child use start appearing at the eighty dollar price range. These are often the best drums to buy, being just as good as more expensive models, with the primary difference being a lack of a seat. You have a seat for your child at home, don't you? Then why would you buy another one for no reason with your child's drum kit?! The basic necessities of every drum set are included in even these lower-end models, and so long as you buy from a company with a good name in the musical instrument industry, you have nothing to worry about so far as craftsmanship is concerned. Above all else, don't buy a more expensive drum set that doesn't have anything over the cheaper ones. Always compare and contrast the cheapest deals with whatever else you're looking for, so that you get the right gift at the right price, instead of paying for essentially the same gift at the wrong price.
Non-superficial differences in drum kits will usually start to show up around the hundred and forty or hundred and fifty mark. Most readily discernible for novices will be the inclusion of a second cymbal... and, of course, the superfluous but unavoidable chair! The aesthetics of the sets will also start to look a great deal closer to a professional drum set's appearance, giving your child a feeling of maturity, as though he's playing like a pro. Material will always take a step up. Instead of lots of plastic, you'll find more expertly-carved wood and gleaming chrome or steel. Besides just plain being prettier and more mature-looking, these materials will help the drum set last for longer, allowing your child to enjoy his gift for years and years. However, such hard substances can potentially be dangerous to very young children, so if your little one is still just a toddler or thereabouts, you should stick to cheaper plastic-based fare. These sets will range all the way up to three hundred dollars, roughly speaking, but you're unlikely to find a great deal more in terms of raw functionality by shelling out an extra hundred bucks. On the other hand, if your child has a true passion for drumming and you want to give him something as beautiful as his own devotion to music, the higher-end models will give the kind of aesthetic beauty you're questing for.
