Steve Smith is widely known as the drummer of American rock band Journey. He is a versatile musician, working with hundreds of artists to date. Thanks its battery power and command of jazz, which has attracted the attention of audiences of all ages.
Born August 21, 1954 in Whitman, Massachusetts Smith has discovered the interest in the drums, hear the bands in parades in his hometown as a child. He received his first drum kit two years old. In 1974, Smith joined the Biviana Lin Big Band, which toured and recorded over two years. He also toured with jazz violinist Jean Luc Ponty in 1976, and with Ronnie Montrose, in 1977. It was during his tour with Montrose Smith has been invited to join the rock band Journey, replace Aynsley Dunbar. He joined the singer Steve Perry, guitarist Neal Schon, bassist and keyboardist Gregg Rolie Ross Valory on tape. Smith played drums, touring and recording with the orchestra from 1978 to 1985, during the period which is considered the most successful for the group. Subsequently, the group decided to leave in 1985. Smith focused on jazz, and continued his career as a session musician. He has played in success with many different artists, including Mariah Carey, Savage Garden, Bryan Adams, Andrea Bocelli, Corrado Rustici, and Ray Price. He also played with several jazz artists of high level, as Mike Mainieri Steps Ahead Group, Tom Coster, Ahmad Jamal, Dave Liebman, Anthony Jackson, Mike Stern, George Brooks Summit, Scott Henderson, Buddy Rich Big Band, and many more.
In 1983, when he was a member of the trip, jazz, he formed his own orchestra merger, Steve Smith and their data vital. 2 How to tell a Sonor drum set is what?
