Pearl Drum Kits
The Forum line is great for a beginner. Just set it up and start playing. Shells are 6 ply poplar and they even throw in a set of drum sticks. There is a snare, bass drum, two toms, cymbals including a high hat and a throne. You don't need anything more.
Vision is a great series for any drummer. There are four different types in the series with just small differences. The types include the VX or most affordable set, VXS, Birch VBX and the most expensive set the Vision Maple VMX. These sets offer optimum sound and style for the amateur or professional drummer.
The Reference Series drums are made not particularly as a set but as individual drums. Each drum is engineered to make the best sound it can within the range it can produce. Pearl advertises that this set is the perfect sounding set.
There are two types of Master drum sets. One is the Master MXC having maple shells with a beautiful glitter finish in several different colors. This set not only has great sound but it looks great on stage. The Masterworks line are custom drums made by hand. Each little piece is placed by a human, not a machine. You will get exactly what you want with this line. Custom drums take a little longer to make so it may take up to 6 months to receive a set from the time it is ordered.

What's the best online site to buy Pearl and Ludwig Drum Kits?
I've been to musician's friend, and they don't have very good options for extra Toms for any specific drum kit, so what's another good site that I can go to to build my own complete set and order it?
if you're interested in building a custom set, you better expect to pay a lot more money; at least twice as much. I would check out www.midwestpercussion.com I go there to buy everything. they have fantastic deals and are very reliable. they offer a wide array of Snare Drums to buy, and some nice sets of toms. that would be the route i would suggest you take.
